Expand your games with the biggest DLC, updates, and expansions
W
e love an excuse to dive back into some of our favourite games, and a
good DLC pack is just the thing, extending the life of a title long beyond launch day. From single-player expansions, to
new multiplayer modes and maps, to slick free updates, 2019 promises to be packed with loads of great add-ons across all formats. Here are just fi ve of the biggest and brightest coming early this year.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
Released last year, Celeste is a fantastic
indie platformer – and it’s getting a juicy free update in 2019
With the Legacy of the FIrst Blade expansion wrapping up, fans will this spring be treated to the fi rst episode of The Fate of Atlantis, with the second and third following shortly after. As you’d expect, it’ll allow you to fi nally explore the mythological sunken city, discovering new secrets among the mysterious ruins of the First Civilisation and testing your mettle against the supernatural monsters they left behind.
Sea of Thieves
Rare’s latest update for their piratical sandbox brings competitive battles to the forefront. The Arena will allow bloodthirsty players to load into a new map for fast head-to-head treasure hunts, and then spend their ill-gotten gains raising their reputation and earning unique items with new faction the Sea Dogs. As with previous expansions, this’ll be launching totally free for all owners of the game.
Battlefi eld V
The WWII shooter is almost ready to deploy its unique take on the Battle Royale genre. Due in March, Firestorm mixes up the formula established by the likes of Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds by putting the focus on squad-based teamwork, destructible terrain, and powerful vehicles (yes, that means tanks). Objectives around the map will allow you to unlock more powerful gear – if you can capture them.
Celeste
The developer behind this mountain- climbing indie hit has announced a free expansion coming soon, which will add a whole extra chapter of platform-hopping action. It’ll feature new items, new mechanics, and a diffi culty level that outstrips anything in the main game. Given parts of Celeste were already tough as old mountaineering boots, expect bruised thumbs with this one…
Just Cause 4
Square Enix have three expansions planned this year, kicking off fi rst with Dare Devils, which sees walking apocalypse Rico hopping behind the wheel for some edge-of-your- seat death races and explosive ‘rampage rallies’ as he takes on the gangs of the Solis underground. Coming later this year is Danger, which introduces hi-tech new weaponry, then we’ll get a full-scale demonic invasion in Los Demonios.
