BEHIND THE SCENES | Resident Evil 2 4

UNLIVING LEGEND

The original Resi 2’s most iconic scares

Licked into touch The introduction of the Licker was one of the all-time great monster reveals. Blood dripped from the ceiling next to a decapitated corpse – as you looked up, you saw the skinless freak crawling towards you, drooling and licking its lips. Horrifying.

so they can really feel the impact of a zombie bite.” With so many clever

changes, we’re curious to know if Kanda has a personal favourite. “The ending,” he says. “It’s something that will feel both new and yet like classic Resident Evil 2 at the same time.” We’ll not spoil what he’s referring to for those who’ve not reached it yet…

Grave decisions And, of course, we had to ask

how Kanda thinks he’d fare in a real T-virus outbreak. “When you work on a game

like this, you do simulate what it would feel like to fi ght a zombie thousands of times over in your head,” he says. “So I’m confi dent I would survive in a world fi lled with zombies!” That’s the kind of positive

attitude you need for a project this ambitious. By staying reverent to the original, but not

being afraid to make huge changes too, Kanda’s team have crafted something unique. Who knew – despite everything the series has taught us over the years, something coming back from the dead can be a good thing after all.

Croc, stock, and barrel Faced with hordes of shuffl ing zombies or a 40ft alligator, we’ll take our chances with the brain-biters any day. When Leon was cornered by this reptile, he took a cue from the end of Jaws by blowing the beast’s head off with a compressed air canister.

X-factor The trenchcoat-sporting Tyrant may have been a beast of few words, but that’s only because he let his homicidal actions do the talking. Like an even more focused Terminator, Mr X pursued Leon and Claire relentlessly, supplying chills and carnage every time he showed up.
