here can be much more to completing a game than just reaching the end credits.

Achievements keep the adventure going by offering extra challenges and opening up new ways to play. For those unfamiliar,

achievements – or trophies, as they’re known on PlayStation – are awards earned by completing specific in-game tasks. Sometimes they’re about quantity or endurance, challenging you to, for example, defeat a large number of enemies or travel a long distance. Sometimes they’re a test of your gaming mastery, perhaps requiring you to beat a series of levels without dying, or in record time. And sometimes they’re just a bit of silly fun, encouraging you to do something completely weird you may not have even

realised was possible… As you earn achievements and

trophies, they’re added up for a running score on your account. The system essentially places a numerical value on your gaming prowess – perfect for those times you just need a mate to know you’re better at games than they are.

Heavy medals It’s also a great excuse to

revisit older games, and you may be able to pick up titles like this at a bargain price, especially if you find them pre-owned at

your local GAME store. We’ve collected some of our

favourites on the next page – and our friends at TrueAchievements and TrueTrophies have provided stats for how many of their users have completed each one, to give you an idea of their rarity.
