He’s already one of the most endearing videogame sidekicks we’ve encountered, clinging to Cal’s back as you move through environments and jumping off to hack doors or scan your surroundings. He even displays the status of your health and can fire handy little healing canisters out the top of his head like R2 shooting out Luke’s lightsaber in Return of the Jedi. And, of course, he’s got a holo-projector – perfect for checking the map.
Star turn Everything about Fallen Order,
from the stirring music to the sheen of a stormtrooper’s armour, feels authentically Star Wars. Respawn are working closely with Lucasfilm on their additions to the galaxy – half of the planets you visit in the game will be brand new – as
well as how they incorporate familiar faces such as Forest Whitaker’s Saw Gerrera (Jyn’s grizzled mentor in Rogue One), who plays a significant role in the story. With a mix of memorable characters, strange alien worlds to explore, and that iconic lightsaber-on- lightsaber action, it’s looking like Respawn are ready to make all our Star Wars fantasies a reality come 15 November.

Light attack The lightsaber is controlled with just two buttons, with different attacks depending on whether they’re tapped or held down. And if an enemy is off in the distance, you can always chuck it their way like a deadly glowing frisbee.
Handle it The appearance of Cal’s lightsaber can be customised using items found in the world. Switch out the hilt, accessories or, yes, the colour of the beam to make it your own. But with Cal sticking strictly to the light side of the Force, don’t expect it to come in red.
Inside the Jedi’s weapon of choice
Glow life The lightsaber has a few roles outside of combat, too. You can slash obstacles blocking Cal’s path, or use it as a torch to light your way in the galaxy’s darker corners. If there happens to be a rave level at any point, it’d probably make for a really good glowstick, too.
